Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has assured that the victims of the January 16, 2024, Bodija explosion will receive immediate relief as the state government prepares to implement the committee’s report on the distribution of the Bodija Explosion Relief Fund.

During a meeting at the Oyo Governor’s office on Wednesday, Makinde, through his Deputy, Bayo Lawal, affirmed that there would be no further delays in assisting the victims. “We do not have the luxury of further delay,” Makinde emphasized, stressing the urgency of aiding the explosion victims.

The committee, which was inaugurated on December 24, 2024, detailed financial support for those affected, including those who lost loved ones, property, and vehicles. According to Fatai Owoseni, a member of the committee, the report offers a comprehensive breakdown of the financial support each category of victim will receive.

“We proposed support for different categories of people, for the families of those who lost their lives and those who lost buildings, vehicles, and other valuables,” said Muyiwa Bamgbose, President of the Bodija Estate Residents Association (BERA).

Makinde’s commitment to quick implementation follows a year of efforts to investigate the cause of the explosion and ensure the victims return to normalcy.
