Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has said moves are on the way to reconcile with members of the party led by a former governor, Ibrahim Shekarau.

This is even as the governor insisted that the national secretariat of the party recognised and accepted the emergence of Abdullahi Abbas, endorsed by him, as the only state chairman of the party.

The governor, according to a statement by Abba Anwar, his chief press secretary, said this on Wednesday before the commencement of the State Executive Council meeting.

The statement said Ganduje noted that “Politics is all about this kind (reconciliation) of development, anyway.”

The governor, according to the statement, also commended all commissioners and other members of the state executive council on their performance before, during and after the Saturday congress.

Shekarau, who is currently the senator representing Kano Central, had led a group now called the G-7, comprising of Senator Barau Jibrin (Kano North), four House of Representative members and a party stalwart, to challenge Ganduje’s leadership of the party.

They had written a petition to the party’s national secretariat where they alleged that despite their huge contribution to the success of the party in the 2019 election, the governor had side-lined them and refused to carry them along in the affairs of the party in the state.

The governor has, however, refuted their claims, saying the group do not believe in the party structure since they rejected the party leadership from ward to state level.

The crisis thereafter culminated in parallel congresses on Saturday where Ahmadu Haruna Danzago emerged as the chairman of the Shekarau’s G-7 faction and Abdullahi Abbas was elected as chairman of Ganduje’s wing.
