In a bold move to rejuvenate its political influence, a faction of the Labour Party (LP), led by the National Chairman of its caretaker committee, Nanedi Usman, has launched a comprehensive strategy aimed at restoring the party’s fortunes for the 2027 general elections.

The strategy, dubbed “Operation Recover and Redeem,” is backed by party leaders, including presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, and Abia State Governor Alex Otti.

The initiative aims to address internal party challenges and position the LP as a formidable opponent capable of challenging President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming election.

“As part of the ‘Recover and Redeem’ strategy, the Labour Party has resolved to launch a nationwide congress, leading to a legitimate and all-inclusive national convention,” said Apagun Olaolu Samuel, the interim Chairman of the party in Ogun State.

Olaolu also expressed concerns over the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)’s silence on the party’s issues, as well as prolonged court cases that have hindered its progress. “We are committed to recovering our party from those who have hijacked it and restoring its integrity,” he added.

In response, the NLC Political Commission, led by Acting Chairman Professor Theophilus Ndubuaku, expressed support for the LP leadership and reassured them of their commitment to addressing the concerns raised. The commission also officially recognized the Labour Party’s Interim Executive Committee in Ogun State and praised their efforts to maintain party unity during difficult times.

“We urge all our members to remain steadfast and committed to this process, as we work towards rebuilding the Labour Party into a formidable force for the 2027 elections,” concluded Olaolu.
