The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has strongly denied reports claiming she resigned from her position.

Meranda’s Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, swiftly debunked the rumors on Wednesday, February 19, after an unsigned circular circulated online, dated February 17, 2025, falsely claiming Meranda’s resignation.

Ajiboye called the rumors “a lie from the pit of hell,” adding, “There is no truth in the story. I am doing my work as the CPS, the Speaker is in her office as we speak, and everybody is going about their business. We do not know where the story is coming from. The Speaker has not resigned and there is no plan for that.”

The circulating rumors had sparked concern among lawmakers, but members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have already dismissed any speculation regarding Meranda’s potential resignation.

On February 18, 36 pro-Meranda lawmakers in the 40-member assembly passed a vote of confidence in her leadership, further emphasizing their support. The lawmakers expressed solidarity, chanting for Meranda to remain in office despite attempts to bring former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa back into the role.

The support came amid growing tensions within the House, as lawmakers made it clear they stood by Meranda’s leadership.
