Niger State Government has over the weekend demolished the residential buildings of an arrested suspected kidnapper in the Yinkangbe suburb of Minna, the state capital
The State’s Hon. Commissioner for Local Government, Community Development, Chieftaincy Affairs and Internal Security, Mr. Emmanuel Umar who supervised the demolition carried out under heavy security men attached to the State’s Command of the Nigeria Police Force.
Mr. Umar noted that the security agencies were on the trail of the suspect after receiving credible intelligence about his illegal activities by a concerned citizen and it led to his arrest and has since been whisked to Abuja.
“What you are seeing behind is a proceed of crime”, said Emmanuel Umar on the sidelines of an interview with the newsmen at the scene.
According to him, the building is owned by a kidnapper that has been arrested and since it is our policy not to allow criminality to reign in the state, the law enforcement agencies in partnership with the state government are so happy to have established this,” he stated.
The commissioner added that there will not be safe haven for kidnappers, bandits and other criminal elements in the state as the state governor is doing everything within his capacity to ensure that Niger State regains its peaceful and secured environment.
While commending the efforts of the security agencies, the commissioner appealed to the people to participate actively and anyone who has vital information should report to the appropriate authority promising them protection.
Ward Head of Yinkangbe and Kpakungu, Inuwa Makun and Tanko S. Ibrahim respectively commended the efforts of the state government and security agencies promising that the people of the community will be more security conscious.
However, residents of the community expressed their shock by the development, saying that the arrested kidnapper only moved into their neighbourhood about two months ago when he acquired the property.
The commissioner could however not give the name of the arrested kidnapper citing security reasons and even the residents too did not know his name.
The demolished buildings included a two-bedroom flat where he occupies with his family and an ongoing two-bedroom flat.
