At the Y2021 Lagos State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Gala/Awards held in Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu was named Outstanding Governor of the Year, while Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, was named Outstanding Speaker of a State Assembly.

Governor Sanwo-Olu was nominated because of his administration’s achievements in the areas of Transportation and Traffic Management, Health and Environment, Education and Technology, Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy, Entertainment and Tourism, and Security and Governance, according to the Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the NUJ, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi.

Ajayi said, “It is also on record that the Lagos State Government, under his leadership as the Incident Commander, battled the three waves of COVID-19 pandemic with huge success. He equally handled the EndSARS protests by directly engaging the youths and taking their case to President Muhammadu Buhari”.

The NUJ Chairman also stated that Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Obasa emerged as Outstanding Speaker of a State Assembly because he has “promoted a harmonious relationship between the Executive and the Legislative Arms of government, thereby impacting on the smooth running of governance by the Sanwo-Olu administration.

His words: “The House of Assembly under his leadership has also enacted a good number of bills into law, which empowered the Executive to undertake massive infrastructure development, citizens’ empowerment and address public health issues, especially the COVID-19, among others”.
