The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has reached a significant milestone, with over 117 million Nigerians now registered for the National Identity Number (NIN). As of February 28, 2025, the NIMC dashboard revealed that 56.5% of registrants are male, while 43.5% are female.
Lagos State leads the country with the highest enrollment figure of over 12.6 million registrants, followed by Kano State with 10.2 million. “The highest cumulative enrollment figure of over 12.6 million was recorded in Lagos State. Regional figures indicated an almost equal distribution across the North and South,” the NIMC report stated.
Despite this progress, states like Bayelsa, Ebonyi, and Ekiti recorded the lowest registration numbers. Bayelsa, for example, only saw 758,111 registrants. Other states with lower enrollments include Cross River, Taraba, and Yobe.
In terms of regional distribution, northern states like Kano and Kaduna have seen substantial enrollment numbers, with Kaduna recording nearly 7 million registrations. Meanwhile, states like Ogun, Oyo, and Rivers have also made significant strides in the process.
This massive registration effort aims to ensure better access to government services and improve national data management.
