The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State has described the 100 days in office by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as an “unmitigated disaster”.
This is contained in a statement signed by the APC Publicity Secretary in the State, Valentine Onojeghuo.
He said in the statement made available to DAILY POST that, “The truth of the matter is that the entire Delta State is very much aware that the Sheriff Oborevwori government is a pseudo 3rd term of the Okowa administration and there is nothing to celebrate.
“Every policy decision and direction is being teleguided by the immediate past governor of the State as the puppet master.
“Within days of coming into office, the present Governor, Oborevwori has continued with the ‘borrow borrow’ policy of his predecessor by borrowing close to a N100 billion despite the fact that in the twilight of the Okowa administration, the Delta State House of Assembly approved a supplementary budget of over 70 billion naira with less than 12 days to hand over.
“Delta State is the most heavily indebted State in the country with nothing to show for it. So where Okowa stopped, Sheriff has continued and as you can see there is nothing to celebrate but abject failure, both in terms of human capital and infrastructural development.”
“As we speak, the Osubi-Orerokpe-Eku-Abraka-Obiaruku Road has been completely cut off, making access to the State capital, Asaba, difficult.
“Ohoro-Bomadi Road, a major road between Delta Central and Delta South has become a nightmare. Oka junction through Adagrassa-Aziza junction is a death trap, while intra-city roads in major towns across the State have been washed away by the rains and internal floods.
“The State capital, Asaba and Warri/Effurun are not spared of its share of road infrastructural decay in spite of the several billions that have been committed to them through a phantom project called Water Storm.
“The fortunes of the State has since been mortgaged to commercial banks and the banks have commenced swooping on the State allocation, notwithstanding the several warnings issued by our gubernatorial candidate, HE Sen Ovie Omo-Agege CFR, to these commercial houses to desist from such flagrant and abusive borrowing transactions, as his administration will not be held accountable once we have reclaimed our stolen mandate.
“Shockingly and regrettably, the State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori only yesterday, presented a 161 billion supplementary budget to the State House of Assembly for approval as his gift to the people of Delta State in celebrating his first 100 days in office.
“Ordinarily, such celebration ought to be an opportunity for the occupier of the office to let his constituents know of his preparedness to work for their betterment, but in Delta State, the first 100 days of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in office is a celebration of the more agenda of more loans, more infrastructural decay, more frustration and more misery for gullible Deltans.
“There is absolutely nothing to celebrate as the Delta State is in the throes of financial recklessness and executive abandonment,” he claimed.
The party urged Deltans not to despair nor lose hope as help was on the way.
In a swift reaction, however, the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori-led Delta State Government said it has completed 117 kilometre roads, completed the faculty of Agriculture, completed administrative block, theatre hall and auditorium at the Dennis Osadebe University, Asaba.
The Chief Press Secretary, CPS, to the Governor, Mr Festus Ahon spoke on behalf of the State Government.
He noted that the State Government had also completed the environmental and engineering department at the Delta State University, Agbor.
He pointed out that the State Government had also approved five billion naira for payment of promotion arrears for civil servants, in addition to ten thousand (₦10,000) palliative payments to cushion the effects of the petrol subsidy removal.
According to Ahon, the Delta State Government had also approved the employment of teaching and non-teaching staff into primary and secondary schools across the State.
Ahon noted that the State Government as a way of mitigating the impending flood, have commenced the opening of canals, as well as the removal of illegal structures on waterways.
He said the State Government was considering introducing electric vehicles to reduce the cost of transportation.
