After half a century of enduring darkness, the residents of Yan-dadi Community in Kusada Local Government Area, Katsina State, have finally received electricity.

The agrarian community, home to over 3,000 people, had been without power since its establishment 50 years ago. However, the situation changed recently with the installation of a 23KVA transformer by the government.

Kabir Dan-nana, a local resident, expressed his excitement, saying, “Obviously, it is an ecstatic reaction that having stayed in darkness for 50 or more years in a dark environment, power is restored after seeing it pass along high-tension wires here.”

For many, the moment the lights came on was almost unbelievable. Dan-nana recalled, “The first day I saw light in this community, I could not believe it because we have had many promises from the previous government, but we were caught unawares with this fulfilment by the present government of Dikko Radda.”

Kamilu Hassan, another resident, highlighted the positive impact the new transformer would have on the community, particularly on commercial activities and security. He shared, “If we should calculate the amount expended on fuel, it is enough to put into other things but we are a lot relieved now because of this newly installed 23KVA transformer.”

With the new power supply, locals no longer rely on expensive generators, which had become a constant burden. Hassan also emphasized that the community would take steps to protect the transformer from vandalism, ensuring it remains a lasting benefit.
