The Sokoto State government is set to upgrade its annual Ramadan feeding program, with plans to cater to more indigent people across the state.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu made this announcement during the commissioning of the remodeled Ruggar Wauru Jumuaat Mosque in Sokoto, revealing that preparations for the 2025 Ramadan feeding initiative are already underway.

“We are working ahead of the forthcoming Ramadan fast in order to improve the quality of food being served in our Ramadan feeding centres,” Governor Aliyu said. “We are also determined to expand our feeding centres to areas where they don’t exist for the benefit of the needy, the vulnerable and the less-privileged persons in the society.”

In addition to enhancing the Ramadan feeding initiative, the governor also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve Islamic infrastructure in the state. Several mosques and Islamiyya schools have been renovated or constructed, including notable Jumaat mosques such as Sheikh Musa Lukuwa, Tahsinul Qura’an, and Sultan Maccido.

“These are part of efforts to redeem our campaign promises of promoting Islamic affairs in the state,” Aliyu added.

To further support religious activities, the governor revealed a monthly budget for the maintenance of 90 Jumaat mosques within the Sokoto metropolis, with N300,000 and N500,000 set aside for upkeep. He also introduced monthly allowances for Imams, Deputy Imams, Muazzins, and key religious organizations.

Additionally, Governor Aliyu commended the reactivated Hisbah Board for its role in curbing social vices and other immoral practices in the state, promising continued support for their efforts.

“Rest assured that my administration would continue to prioritize Islamic propagation, being Sokoto, a Muslim-dominated society, with Islam as its main religion,” he concluded.
