Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has called on political appointees to embrace innovation and collaborative efforts as they work to address the state’s pressing challenges and improve the lives of its citizens.
Speaking at the opening of the Plateau State Annual Executive Retreat on Monday, Governor Mutfwang emphasized the importance of a paradigm shift in governance, with the theme “That Plateau May Shine,” held at Miango Rest Home in Bassa Local Government Area.
In his address, Mutfwang challenged his appointees to think critically and innovatively to improve key sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. He stated, “We are privileged that the people of Plateau have entrusted us with their mandate. They have given us the responsibility to lead and stand for them, and we must not disappoint them. Our duty is to save lives, improve livelihoods, and ensure that Plateau progresses to the level of developed nations.”
Reflecting on his personal journey, the governor revealed that his venture into politics was driven by a strong sense of duty to address the issues of insecurity, poverty, and infrastructure deficits hindering the state’s growth. “I am not a career politician. I came into politics because it became a necessity,” he said. “In fact, I initially avoided anything related to public life… But I later realized that one can remain true to their values while engaging in politics.”
Mutfwang further encouraged his appointees to focus on the greater good, stressing the need for collective action: “History has shown that societies advance through unity, not division. The era of working in silos is over. No one can do it alone.”
The retreat featured a lineup of distinguished experts, including Bro. Gbile Akanni of Peace House, Rev. Prof. Pandang Yamsat, Prof. Yusuf Turaki, and Ms. Elsie Attafuah, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Nigeria. These experts led discussions on transformative governance, aligning leadership with biblical principles and sustainable development.
Governor Mutfwang’s call for a united and innovative approach underscores his vision for a prosperous and forward-thinking Plateau State.
