Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has raised an alarm over a plot by opposition parties to destabilize the state ahead of the upcoming local government elections on February 22nd.
In a statement issued this morning, the Governor revealed credible reports of planned attacks on local government secretariats and orchestrated assaults on leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and top government officials.
Adeleke emphasized that these actions were part of a wider scheme to create chaos and pave the way for the declaration of a state of emergency. He made it clear that anyone found involved in the plot would “face the full wrath of the law.”
Describing Osun as one of the most peaceful states in the country, the Governor condemned the desperation of opposition politicians, particularly those from the All Progressives Congress (APC), who he accused of fabricating fake court rulings and spreading fake news to discredit the government ahead of the elections.
“There is no legal basis for any plot to take over the local government system in Osun state,” Adeleke stated, reiterating that elections for chairmen and councilors are scheduled for February 22nd.
He further warned, “Anybody who tests our resolve to sustain law and order in Osun state will have himself to blame,” and pledged to use all available state machinery to maintain peace and security.
Governor Adeleke also called on citizens to go about their daily activities without fear, assuring them that the government was fully in control of the situation.
“I have issued stern directives to the security agencies to secure the state and apprehend any troublemaker,” he added.
