Supporters of the late Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial Zone, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, have regrouped to continue his political legacy, marking their first meeting since his burial in November 2024.

The gathering, held in Awka, Anambra’s capital, was attended by representatives from various support groups previously maintained by the late senator. The meeting aimed to form a united front and begin the search for a gubernatorial candidate whose ideals match those of Ubah.

Before his death, Senator Ubah, who had planned to contest for the Anambra governorship seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC), was confident of his victory and had outlined various development plans for the state.

During a press briefing, Mr. Vin Onyeka, the former Chief of Staff to Ubah, emphasized that the movement’s core objective was to uphold the senator’s vision for a prosperous Anambra State. “As we continue to mourn the painful and untimely departure of our beloved Principal, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, we remain committed to upholding his legacy and vision for a better Anambra State,” Onyeka stated.

Onyeka also clarified that, despite Ubah’s affiliation with the APC, the group had not endorsed any gubernatorial aspirant. “We have not endorsed or thrown our weight behind any aspirant. We are carefully scrutinizing the antecedents, leadership qualities, and commitment of various aspirants to the core ideals that Senator Ifeanyi Ubah championed.”

He went on to list the key criteria for selecting a candidate, which include good governance, human capacity development, economic empowerment, infrastructural transformation, security, and inclusive leadership prioritizing the welfare of the people. Onyeka further stated that the group would support any candidate who embodies these principles, regardless of political party affiliation.

Some of the groups represented at the meeting included Ubah Nation Media Center, Ikemba Front, Afaigboefuna Solidarity Movement, Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation, and Senator Ifeanyi Ubah Women, among others.
