Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged to run his administration with integrity, guided by the fear of God, rather than following the example of the Biblical Babylonians. His remarks came after receiving a letter of appreciation from the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), who also sought to honor him with an award.

In a speech delivered during the inauguration of the Labour House in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Fubara emphasized the importance of compassionate leadership. “We are not running it like Nebuchadnezzar’s time. We are running it with the Jesus style where love takes the lead over everything,” he said. “Where love is what should be in front and behind.”

Fubara also highlighted the steps his administration has taken to improve the welfare of Rivers workers amidst the political crisis of 2023, committing to provide Christmas bonuses to workers across all grade levels. “I decided to pay a Christmas bonus of N100,000 to every worker in December 2023 and extended the gesture to retirees in 2024,” he revealed.

Reflecting on the ongoing harmony between the Rivers State government and workers, he expressed his satisfaction with the current state of industrial relations. “We are putting a human face to governance. We are not meeting all their needs, but workers feel valued and motivated,” he added.

Fubara also paid tribute to Pa Edwin Clark, the late national leader, for his positive contributions to regional and national development. “What is he remembered for? For his courage, truthfulness, doggedness, and the survival of this region,” he stated.

The governor further expressed his admiration for Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, and called on him to continue pursuing righteous leadership. “History will not remember anyone for any destructive thing. Continue to do what is right. History and the good people of Bayelsa will forever remember you,” Fubara concluded.

Fubara assured that his administration would strengthen the relationship between Rivers and Bayelsa for mutual growth and progress.
