The Anambra North Traditional Rulers Council has condemned the ongoing land conflict between the Umuoba Abegbu Anam community in Anambra West LGA and the Eziaglu-otu Aguleri community in Anambra East LGA. The royal fathers expressed their deep concern in a six-point communique issued after their bi-monthly meeting, held at the Anambra East Council Secretariat in Otu-ocha.

“We want to make it clear that resorting to violence, which could result in the loss of lives and property, is neither part of our culture nor what we stand for,” said Igwe Joseph Ajodo, Chairman of the Anambra North Traditional Rulers Council.

The monarchs offered their condolences to the families of those affected by the conflict and appealed to the public and stakeholders for cooperation. They also sought the involvement of Ndi Igwe, in collaboration with the state government, to mediate and find a lasting solution.

“We are pleased with the positive response from the communities involved, as they have agreed to lay down their weapons for peace,” the communique stated.

The council urged the government to take swift action to begin the demarcation of the disputed lands to prevent further escalation of the situation.
