The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Federal Government to withhold local government allocations from Osun State, following what it deems an “illegal” council election held by Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.

According to the APC, the election, conducted on February 22, 2025, disregarded a valid and existing judgment by the Court of Appeal, which had reinstated the previous local government officials until October 2025.

In a statement, APC spokesperson Felix Morka said, “In keeping with the rule of law, it is our expectation that the Federal Government will make federal allocation for local governments available only to democratically elected and judicially certified local government officials in Osun state.”

The party condemned the election as “a disgraceful sham,” adding that Adeleke’s refusal to follow the Court’s ruling was “violently contemptuous of the valid and subsisting judgment.” Morka questioned the governor’s actions, asking, “Why is it so difficult for Governor Adeleke to abide by a valid order of the Court of Appeal reinstating the sacked local government officials?”

In response, the Osun State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) urged the Federal Government not to withhold funds from the state’s local councils, despite the ongoing controversy over the election.
