Bayelsa State Government, in collaboration with the British Council, has launched a capacity-building program for 200 primary and secondary school teachers to improve teaching methods across the state.

The five-day training, which kicked off on Monday, is aimed at empowering headmasters and school principals with the latest skills to enhance education in the region.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Gentle Emelah, Commissioner for Education in Bayelsa, emphasized that the state prioritizes teacher development to improve learning outcomes.

“Bayelsa is committed to equipping our educators with the tools needed to deliver quality education,” he said, while being represented by Mr. Monday Eke, Director of Examinations and Records.

Dr. Alice Atuwo, Executive Secretary of the Bayelsa Educational Development Trust Fund (BEDTF), expressed that enhancing teacher capacity was crucial for educational progress in the state.

“For Bayelsa to make meaningful strides in education, our educators must be equipped with the modern knowledge necessary for effective teaching,” Atuwo stated.

The partnership with the British Council will focus on new teaching methods, digital tools, and effective school management.

Mr. Twanshishak Daniel, Head of English and Schools at the British Council, acknowledged Bayelsa’s strong commitment to educational development, which led to the approval of this collaborative program.

The initiative also gained support from the Teachers Training, Registration, and Certification Board (TTRCB), with Dr. Peremoboere Ogola, Acting Chairman of the Board, praising the BEDTF for facilitating numerous teacher training programs across the state.

This partnership is expected to improve the quality of education and leadership within schools across Bayelsa.
