The Sokoto State Government has announced a significant Ramadan support package worth N285 million for Ulamas and religious organizations across the state. Governor Ahmed Aliyu revealed the initiative on Monday, designed to assist religious leaders, including Jum’at Imams, Na’ibs, Mu’adhins, and Islamic scholars, during the holy month.

Governor Aliyu emphasized that the support reflects the government’s commitment to easing the financial burdens of religious leaders, enabling them to focus on their spiritual duties.

“This initiative aims to ease the challenges faced by religious leaders during the sacred period and demonstrate the government’s unwavering support for the Ulamas, who play a crucial role in guiding the community according to Islamic teachings,” he said.

The breakdown of the support includes:

Jum’at Imams: five bags of maize and N100,000.

Na’ibs: three bags of maize and N50,000.

Mu’adhins: two bags of maize and N50,000. Additionally, 300 senior Islamic scholars will receive N200,000 each, while 100 others will be given N100,000. Religious organizations will also benefit from the program, with 150 groups receiving N300,000 each.

Governor Aliyu also announced the commissioning of three remodeled Jum’at mosques and the ongoing work on over 30 others as part of efforts to improve places of worship. This initiative aligns with his administration’s Nine-point Smart Innovative Agenda, which focuses on the welfare of the people and the development of religious institutions.

In his conclusion, Governor Aliyu expressed his commitment to the growth of Islam in the state and called for continued prayers and support from religious leaders to overcome security challenges. He wished all Sokoto residents a peaceful and blessed Ramadan.
