Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed his deep condolences following a tragic accident that claimed the life of a government bus driver and injured four passengers.
The incident, which involved a state-owned luxury bus colliding with a truck, occurred on Wednesday, leaving the driver dead and the passengers with varying degrees of injury.
Speaking during a visit to the injured at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Oyebanji, represented by his deputy Mrs. Monisade Afuye, emphasized the government’s commitment to the victims’ recovery. “The welfare and safety of Ekiti people are vital and paramount. Please take good care of the injured so that they can reunite with their families,” said the governor.
In his emotional response, the governor lamented, “We are not happy that we lost a life during the accident… It was one incident that really pained us as a government.” He further warned truck drivers in the state against reckless driving, stressing, “The safety of our people is paramount… we appeal to road users, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles and trucks, to shun reckless driving.”
The visit highlighted the government’s focus on public safety, with the Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, reinforcing the administration’s commitment. “The lives of Ekiti populace are precious to this government,” he said.
In addition, EKSUTH’s Chief Medical Director, Prof. Kayode Olabanji, praised the hospital’s team for their swift action, which minimized fatalities. “Our team swung into action immediately, and this played a crucial role in preventing more fatalities,” Olabanji remarked.
