The Lagos State Police Command has refuted reports claiming that access to the Lagos State House of Assembly has been restricted, clarifying that heightened security measures have been implemented to maintain order.

In a statement issued on Monday, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the police, emphasized that while security around the assembly complex has been bolstered, journalists and individuals with legitimate business are still permitted entry.

“The Lagos State Police Command wishes to debunk news making the rounds that the police has restricted entry into the Lagos State House of Assembly,” Hundeyin said in the statement.

Hundeyin explained that the increased security presence, ordered by the state Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, is aimed at ensuring the safety and orderliness of the assembly complex.

He stated, “To forestall breakdown of law and order, CP Olohundare Jimoh ordered the proactive deployment of human and operational resources to the House of Assembly.”

While security personnel have been deployed, Hundeyin clarified, “Entry is allowed into the Assembly complex for journalists and every other person with genuine business to carry out there.”

Furthermore, as part of the security strategy, traffic around the assembly has been diverted to ensure better control over the area’s security.

“There is no restriction of movement into the Lagos State House of Assembly, and the diversion of traffic was proactively emplaced to forestall breakdown of law and order,” Hundeyin added.
