In a shocking turn of events, military personnel stormed the headquarters of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) in Ikeja, Lagos, on Thursday morning, causing panic and chaos.
According to sources, the military forcefully entered the company’s premises around 7:40 am, with some officers seen armed and threatening staff.
“This is unprecedented; we have never seen anything like this. They came in force and demanded to see our records,” a staff member at the Ikeja headquarters stated under anonymity.
The assault was not isolated to the headquarters. Similar incidents occurred at Ikeja Electric’s office on Ago Palace Way, Okota, Isolo, Lagos, where military personnel were filmed wielding arms.
A viral video showed over seven staff members kneeling in fear while others were physically assaulted by the soldiers.
The incident comes just a day after Ikeja Electric disconnected power to the Nigerian Air Force logistics base in Ikeja, raising suspicions about the military’s motive.
A source close to the company revealed, “Our staff is terrified; some are still hiding. We are trying to understand why the military has resorted to such tactics.”
The tension has led to fears among other employees, with many questioning whether the situation could escalate further.
Details on the cause of the military intervention remain unclear, but authorities are expected to release more information shortly.
