As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) prepares for the 2025 Anambra State governorship election, scheduled for November 8, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is moving ahead with plans for its primaries.

The APC has sold seven nomination forms for the governorship race, raising a significant N350 million.

The party is set to screen these aspirants starting Friday. A decision to hold an indirect primary was confirmed during a meeting by the APC’s National Working Committee.

Senator Ajibola Basiru, the APC National Secretary, clarified that contrary to earlier reports, the party will not be adopting a direct primary mode for the election.

“We have formally decided that the mode of emergence of the candidate for that election will be through the indirect primary,” Basiru stated.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faces a major hurdle as no aspirant has yet purchased its N40 million nomination form due to internal crises and the high cost of candidacy.

Chief Onyeka Ike, a former PDP Publicity Secretary, lamented, “PDP may not present a candidate because you cannot compel someone to buy a form they cannot afford.”
