In response to the recent controversy surrounding the Senate, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has voiced support for the actions taken by the Senate regarding Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, had accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment.

During a public statement, Tinubu emphasized the importance of maintaining the Senate’s dignity and stressed that the chamber should be a place of respect and honor.

“I believe that the Senate is doing what is needful because that’s what it is,” Tinubu stated, addressing public speculation about her stance.

She further elaborated, “We shouldn’t be hearing things like that. It’s a mature chamber, and it should be treated with respect. It’s an honor for you to be in that place alone.”

Drawing on her own experience, having served in the Senate for 12 years, Tinubu continued, “I was there for 12 years, even in my younger days, and I’m still trying to look young, but people compliment you all the time.”

Ahead of International Women’s Day, Tinubu urged Nigerian women to assert themselves in leadership roles and not allow men to diminish their authority.

“Women, raise yourself, don’t be in a position that men will be talking to you anyhow. You can always shut them down before they start,” she advised.

The First Lady also commended the progress women have made, citing young advocates like Zuriel Oduwole, and encouraged Nigerian women to continue striving for excellence in all areas of life.
