In a bid to strengthen bilateral ties, Nigeria and China are exploring opportunities for cultural exchange, with a particular focus on expanding the reach of Nigerian music in China’s growing market.
The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, expressed China’s desire to deepen cultural relations during a meeting with Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa. Dunhai highlighted the potential economic benefits from this collaboration, including partnerships for training, capacity building, and tourism promotion.
“We would like to explore opportunities for cultural exchange, allowing Nigerian artists to tap into the Chinese market, where there is a growing demand for Nigerian music,” Dunhai said. “This partnership will unlock new opportunities for growth, innovation, and cultural exchange.”
Minister Musawa welcomed the initiative, reaffirming President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to fostering stronger ties.
She also emphasized the ministry’s efforts to revitalize Nigeria’s tourism infrastructure, drawing inspiration from global tourism sites such as those in Saudi Arabia and Dubai.
“We are dedicated to boosting our tourism and creative sectors, which will not only enhance economic growth but also promote cultural understanding between our nations,” Musawa stated.
This partnership aims to create pathways for collaboration in various sectors, including tech development, animation, and streamlined visa processes for tourism and creative industry stakeholders.
