Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has vowed to bring to justice the perpetrators behind the recent deadly attacks on communities in Akure North Local Government Area.
Suspected herdsmen reportedly killed at least 14 people and injured many others in the early hours of last Saturday, targeting the communities of Aba Pastor, Aba Sunday, Alajido, and Ademekun.
Residents recounted that the attackers stormed the areas, firing indiscriminately and forcing many to flee their homes. Representing the governor, the Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun), Adetunji Adeleye, visited the affected communities on Thursday to assure residents of justice and enhanced security measures.
“On behalf of the good people of Ondo State, I commiserate with the affected families. We assure residents and farmers that now that the government is here, we will secure the area and bring the culprits to justice. It is a very unfortunate situation, and we pray such an incident never happens again,” Adeleye stated.
Governor Aiyedatiwa also emphasized that steps are being taken to prevent further attacks and restore normalcy. He has summoned heads of security agencies for an emergency meeting to address the crisis.
The Regent of Ademekun Community, Adelowo Adekemisola, praised the government’s swift response, saying, “I want to thank the government for their immediate response and the impact we felt.”
Meanwhile, the Ondo State chapter of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors has called for a more proactive approach to security, following the recent abduction of nine surveyors in Ilu Abo Community.
Chairman Kayode Bello urged the government to act swiftly, stating, “Swift intervention is needed to ensure the safe return of any kidnapped citizens.”
