The Lagos State Government has announced plans to prosecute a woman, Nwakwo Patient, for improperly disposing of waste at an undesignated location in the Alimosho area of the state.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, confirmed the arrest of Patient on March 13, 2025, at approximately 7:47 a.m. at the Alimosho Bus Stop along New Ipaja Road.
Wahab explained, “The suspect was caught illegally dumping refuse at the bus stop. Further investigations revealed that she did not have a designated waste storage facility at her residence.
Despite claiming to be registered with a waste management operator, she failed to provide any proof of registration or payment.”
The commissioner emphasized that the woman would be prosecuted in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017 to reinforce compliance with the state’s waste management regulations.
