The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized Governor Monday Okpebholo, calling his recent actions and claims regarding the Nigerian Observer Newspaper “laughable.”
In a statement released on March 19, 2025, Chris Osa Nehikhare, the PDP’s Publicity Secretary, remarked, “Get yourself together for a short reign, your actions are laughable.”
This statement follows the governor’s claims that he could not access the Nigerian Observer facility, despite it being government property.
The PDP also highlighted the irony of Okpebholo’s visit to the facility, noting that he had previously ordered the sacking of the newspaper’s staff in November 2024.
“It is indeed shocking and quite disappointing that Okpebholo still speaks like a stranger who is in the process of taking over a government that he was sworn into over four months ago,” the PDP added.
The party raised concerns about Okpebholo’s lack of knowledge regarding the equipment at the newspaper, despite his officials having toured and taken custody of it earlier this year. “It is alarming to hear that Okpebholo is confused as to where the sophisticated machines… are kept,” they said.
The PDP concluded by urging the governor to “get his act together” and focus on his responsibilities to the people of Edo State.
