Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered a reduction of the curfew imposed on the three communities of Ilobu, Ifon, and Erin Osun, from 17 to 12 hours daily.

This move, which will see the curfew now run from 7 PM to 7 AM, is aimed at ensuring students can sit for their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and other key exams without hindrance.

Governor Adeleke’s decision comes after security reports indicated a gradual return to peace in the affected areas, which had been plagued by violent clashes that resulted in loss of lives and destruction of properties.

In a statement released by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the governor emphasized that the adjustment was in response to the upcoming exams set to begin on April 24.

“We cannot allow their future to be mortgaged,” Adeleke said, stressing the importance of maintaining educational continuity.

Adeleke also reassured citizens of the state’s commitment to restoring peace in the region. “I am still directing that the joint security team should continue to maintain their usual 24-hour surveillance to ensure zero tolerance on any act of lawlessness,” he stated.

The governor commended the traditional rulers of the communities for their efforts in fostering peace, urging them to sustain the progress made. He also expressed optimism that a lasting resolution to the conflict would be reached with the help of a special 100-member crisis resolution committee.

As the situation improves, Adeleke called on all stakeholders to collaborate in bringing the crisis to an end for the sake of unity and development in the state. “It is only in an atmosphere of peace and unity that growth and development can be achieved,” he concluded.
