Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has dismissed as “laughable” claims by Senator Ned Nwoko that he is plotting to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking through the Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr. Fred Oghenesivbe, the governor challenged Nwoko to provide credible evidence for the allegation.
“We don’t have time for Ned Nwoko,” Oghenesivbe said in an interview with The PUNCH. “We have spoken extensively on this issue before now, myself and even the commissioner, Charles Aniagwu, that the governor is not defecting.”
The war of words began after Nwoko, who recently defected to the APC, made a public statement at a rally in Agbor, claiming the governor was eyeing a move to the ruling party.
“Oborevwori wants to come to the APC, but tell him to stay where he is,” Nwoko said to a cheering crowd. “He will be defeated. We don’t want him in the APC.”
Reacting sharply, Oghenesivbe questioned the basis of Nwoko’s claim. “Did Governor Sheriff tell Nwoko that he is coming to the APC? You, journalists, should ask Ned Nwoko whether Sherriff approached him,” he said. “If Oborevwori didn’t approach Nwoko… where did Nwoko get that information? It doesn’t make sense to anybody.”
