Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has declared that he has the competence and leadership ability to become Nigeria’s President in 2027.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Makinde said, “I don’t have any doubt that I have the capacity to occupy the highest office in this land, and I have what it takes.”

However, the governor acknowledged that personal ambition must align with public demand and party decisions. “But is it what I want to do right now? Is it what Nigerians are asking for? Is it what my party will say we should do? I don’t know. We still have a long time to go,” he added.

Makinde emphasized that rebuilding the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should be the current priority. “We must fix our party. You must have a platform for you to even aspire to be anything,” he stated.

Rejecting political stunts, he affirmed his focus on governance. “Right now, I am focusing on the task ahead of us… I will not play stunt politics.”

The governor stressed that any future political bid would be well-considered. “I will never come out to say I want to do X, Y, Z without preparation and without being held accountable,” he said.

Reflecting on his journey, Makinde said he is fulfilled. “If my political journey ends right here, I am also very happy. Not only have I achieved more than my initial goal of going to the Senate, but I’ve also cherished the opportunity to make a difference as governor.”
