Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has issued a heartfelt apology to residents following the killing of over 50 people in Zikke, Bassa Local Government Area, admitting the state’s failure to protect lives and property.
During a condolence visit to the palace of the paramount ruler of Miango on Tuesday, the visibly emotional governor said, “I will tell you the truth: I have been crying since yesterday because I had trusted God that all the arrangements were put in place, that this will not happen again.”
He acknowledged that despite security investments, the system failed. “But like all human arrangements, sometimes they fail. I want to admit that on Sunday night into Monday morning, we failed you. Please, forgive me,” Mutfwang pleaded.
The recent massacre follows a similar deadly attack in Bokkos LGA just two weeks earlier, raising serious concerns over Plateau’s deteriorating security situation.
Calling for unity and vigilance, Mutfwang urged citizens to support security efforts: “We must not give up.”
In his remarks, the paramount ruler of Irigwe land, Ronku Aka, appealed to the government to support rebuilding efforts through improved infrastructure and basic amenities.
The governor met with several bereaved families during the visit, offering words of condolence and reaffirming his administration’s commitment to peace and recovery.
