Governor Alex Otti has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development as a central driver of economic transformation in Abia.

During the flag-off ceremony for the reconstruction of the 5.5-kilometre Owerrinta-Umuikaa Road in Isiala Ngwa South LGA, Otti emphasized that road infrastructure is a key benchmark for progress in the state.

“We are committed to economic transformation across Abia, with road infrastructure as one of our top priorities,” said Otti.

In the past few months, Otti’s administration has launched more than a dozen new road projects, totaling over 200 kilometres, aimed at improving connectivity, attracting investments, and enhancing Abia’s economic landscape.

“What sets us apart is that before a flag-off ceremony, plans are made to ensure funds are available for effective execution and timely delivery,” Otti added, highlighting the financial discipline his government upholds. He also noted that Abia is now among the few states with zero debt to contractors, as confirmed by the National Bureau of Statistics.

The Commissioner for Works, Otumchere Oti, described the road project as crucial for transforming Abia’s entry points into modern, well-structured gateways. “This road forms the western gateway into Abia, and its dualisation will make a grand first impression, improving aesthetics, safety, and accessibility,” Oti said.

The project, which will revitalize surrounding communities and create employment opportunities, is also expected to contribute to boosting the state’s internal revenue. Additionally, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Uzor Nwachukwu, revealed that the area will soon host the state’s first medical city, adding further value to the region’s development.

Otti’s administration is focused on ensuring all road projects are fully funded before starting, setting a new standard for infrastructure delivery in Abia.
