Abia Govt Reiterates Commitment To Boosting Cocoa Production

Abia State Deputy Governor, Ude Oko Chukwu has expressed the preparedness of the present administration to boost cocoa production, in order to return and surpassed its past and present positions in cocoa rating.

Oko Chukwu who gave the assurance at the Government House, Umuahia, when he received the state-contingent who represented Abia state at Akure, Ondo State for the unveiling of the Cocoa House, revealed the plans of the administration to collaborate with the indigenous cocoa processing organizations in order to add more value to the cash crop.

He disclosed that the government is striving to raise more cocoa seedlings, which will be distributed to farmers in order to replace the old less productive trees.

While encouraging cocoa farmers to help the government achieve its dream of leaving the Cocoa industry better than it met it, Sir Oko Chukwu, assured that the government will do its best, provide the needed farm incentive to boost cocoa production in the state.

He, however, lauded the contingent for flying the flag of the state at the unveiling of the National Secretariat (Cocoa House) of Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria, CFAN at Akure, Ondo State.

Submitting their report jointly signed by Hon. Stephen Mpamugo; Chief Emmanuel Onwuchekwa; and Hon. Ugochukwu Njinkonye, the Executive Chairmen of Ikwuano, Bende and Umuahia North Local Government Areas respectively, the State Chairman of CFAN, Sir John Kalu, and Hon. Ndudim Ikelua, State Secretary, the Abia State Cocoa Desk Officer, Mr. Ojo Uma Ojo, highlighted the problems facing cocoa production in the state and expressed optimism that, the problems when addressed could reverse Abia State to its 4th position instead of the 11th position which it presently occupied.
