Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reimposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on the Ifon and Ilobu communities following a fresh outbreak of violence tied to land disputes.

The conflict escalated after gunmen attacked Ilobu late Thursday, resulting in one feared dead, several others injured, and houses set ablaze.

Governor Adeleke, expressing dissatisfaction over the recurring crises, announced the extension of the curfew from the previously set 10 pm to 4 am, now running from 6 pm to 6 am.

This curfew took effect on Friday, March 21, 2025, and will remain in place until further notice.

In a statement, Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, said:

“His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke, has expressed unhappiness and dissatisfaction with the breakout of fresh communal crises in Ilobu and Ifon.

To this end, the Governor has directed that the initial 10 pm to 4 am curfew now be extended to 6 pm to 6 am, effective today, Friday, March 21, 2025, until further notice.”

Governor Adeleke has also reinforced security measures by deploying a joint team comprising the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to ensure lawlessness is swiftly addressed.

Additionally, the Governor has called for a crucial stakeholders’ meeting on Saturday, March 22, 2025, to discuss further resolutions of the ongoing conflict.

This meeting will include prominent figures like the Olufon of Ifon, Oba Peter Akinyooye, and the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olaniyan, along with other community leaders.

Governor Adeleke warned that any individual or group found fueling the crisis would face severe consequences.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to restoring peace in the area and preventing further loss of life.
