The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has condemned the brutal killing of 16 travelers in Edo State, calling it a “senseless act of violence.” Akpabio urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

In a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio expressed his shock and dismay at the tragedy, which involved the lynching of the travelers after they were accused of being kidnappers. The victims were burned alive on Friday, and their bodies were buried in Uromi, Edo State, on Saturday.

“I am deeply saddened and disturbed by the gruesome murder of 16 travellers in Edo State. This senseless act of violence is unacceptable and has no place in our society,” Akpabio said. He further called for peace, unity, and understanding among Nigerians, emphasizing the need to combat violence.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with Governor of Edo State demanding the public parade of 14 suspects currently held in connection with the killings.
