The Alliance Française in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, is hosting a seminar titled ‘French Up Your Career’ this Wednesday as part of the ongoing French Language Week celebrations.
The event, to be held at the Alliance Française on Herbert Macaulay Street, Old GRA, will focus on the importance of bilingualism in advancing careers.
France’s Consul General, Laurent Favier, will lead discussions on how proficiency in French can open doors to better job opportunities and academic success, particularly in Nigeria, where French is recognized as the second official language.
Marina Lacal, the Director of Alliance Française Port Harcourt, explained, “The demand for bilingual professionals is growing.
As Nigeria’s national education policy acknowledges French as a key language, the French Embassy has launched the project ‘Developing the Employability of Young People in Nigeria through Specialized French.’”
The seminar is expected to attract 150 participants, including university students, French learners, and educators from across Rivers State. Lacal emphasized the significance of French language skills, saying, “This event will highlight how bilingualism can enhance opportunities in business, diplomacy, and education.”
Key figures, including Magaly Losange from the French Embassy, and professors from Nigerian universities, will contribute to discussions on how bilingualism can impact career growth in today’s global job market.
The seminar will also feature an eloquence competition and an information booth for language certifications and study opportunities in France.
