Anambra All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, has promised to rescue the state from its current challenges, including insecurity, as he prepares to contest the 2025 governorship election.

Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, Okonkwo received the N50 million nomination and expression of interest forms, which were secured for him by a group known as the Anambra Coalition for Progressive Change.

“I am on a rescue mission to salvage Anambra from being plunged further into the abyss,” Okonkwo declared, expressing confidence in his candidacy and the coalition’s support. He added, “I am encouraged. If there is any doubt, I now know these people are going to match their words with action. They are beside me.”

The APC aspirant accused incumbent Governor Charles Soludo of attempting to block his bid for the party’s governorship ticket, claiming Soludo is “afraid” of his candidacy. “He knows I am the candidate to beat,” Okonkwo said. He also emphasized that despite efforts to undermine him, he is determined to run for the position and bring about change.

In his appreciation for the coalition’s gesture, Okonkwo remarked, “You have just presented to me a great gift of N50 million. May God replenish you.” He also urged others to join the movement, adding, “We will do justice to rescue Anambra from a man who knows all, who takes no advice.”

Chief Ndubuisi Ezeani, leader of the Anambra Coalition for Progressive Change, expressed confidence in Okonkwo’s ability to govern the state, stating, “We have settled for Chief Okonkwo. He has the track record, the pedigree to develop our state.”

Okonkwo also recalled his leadership role in previous elections, citing his work in electing key APC figures. “I am from the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria and I led the campaign that produced Dr Chris Ngige as Senator,” he said. “I am back to produce the first APC Governor in Anambra.”

With a clear focus on the upcoming election, Okonkwo is confident that his party will secure a victory in the state.
