Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has firmly dismissed the possibility of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winning the upcoming November 8 gubernatorial election, emphasizing that the party lacks the grassroots support necessary to secure victory in the state.
In an interview with Arise Television, Soludo, who is seeking re-election under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), stated that the APC’s chances were slim, claiming the party has no significant foothold in Anambra. “APC doesn’t even have a councillor—not one.
In all previous elections, they’ve never been able to get any traction,” he said, pointing out that in past general and local elections, the APC garnered only 3–4% of the vote.
Soludo also rejected comparisons between Anambra and other southern states like Edo, Imo, and Kogi, where the APC has seen success.
“In Edo, the APC controls three Senate seats, several House of Representatives members, and many in the state House of Assembly. It was a competitive race between APC and PDP,” he noted, contrasting the dynamics in Anambra.
Despite his confidence, Soludo reiterated the importance of not underestimating any opponent. “We will contest like we’re the underdog,” he added, maintaining a spirit of cautious optimism for the upcoming election.
Addressing concerns over potential federal interference, Soludo expressed confidence in the integrity of democratic institutions, stating, “I have confidence in the institutions organising the election. I believe in INEC, in the President, and in the Federal Government. I believe they will uphold democracy and ensure a level playing field.”
Soludo’s re-election campaign highlights his administration’s progress in sectors like education, healthcare, and infrastructure, emphasizing his commitment to further improving the state’s security and economic growth.
