Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has congratulated the 34 newly elected Local Government chairmen who triumphed under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in last Saturday’s elections.

The APC secured a clean sweep across all Local Government Areas in the state.

In his message, Governor Radda described the elections as a significant milestone in the state’s democratic journey, highlighting the peaceful and transparent process. He stated, “The peaceful conduct of yesterday’s elections is nothing but a show of maturity of our democracy and the commitment of our people to peaceful political participation.”

The Governor pointed out that the absence of electoral violence and the impressive voter turnout reflected the citizens’ commitment to democratic principles. “The sweeping victory of the APC across the local governments reflects public confidence in our party’s governance,” he said. “More importantly, the overwhelming mandate validates the noticeable investments we have made in the people of Katsina State and the development projects we’ve initiated.”

Governor Radda also emphasized the importance of the new chairmen aligning with the state’s “Building Your Future” agenda to ensure uniform development across the state. He urged the incoming officials to prioritize the State Government’s Community Development Programme (CDP) and adopt inclusive governance. “The dividends of democracy must reach every citizen, regardless of political affiliation,” Radda declared.

In a move to ensure greater accountability, the Governor announced the creation of an Inspectorate Department to monitor local government administration. “We are preparing to amend existing laws and establish an Inspectorate Department to oversee the proper utilization of government funds,” he said. “This department will conduct on-the-ground assessments to ensure public resources are used effectively for the benefit of the people.”

Reflecting on the historic nature of the elections, Radda noted, “Katsina is now one of the first states in Nigeria to successfully implement the transition of power from one elected local government administration to another.”

The Governor expressed gratitude to the people of Katsina for their strong support, saying, “This encourages us to continue serving with dedication and to ensure our governance remains transparent, accountable, and beneficial to all.”

The results were formally presented to the Governor by the Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Local Government Election Organizing Committee, Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe. The Deputy Governor confirmed that APC candidates won all the chairmanship and councillorship seats by wide margins.

“We are particularly honoured by the participation of esteemed leaders, including former President, former governors, top government officials, and the entire Katsina community,” Governor Radda added.

With the success of this election, Katsina State sets a new precedent for local government transitions in Nigeria.
