In a show of unity, governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) paid a visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Kaduna on Monday.
Led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, the delegation held a closed-door meeting with Buhari, marking a significant gesture of solidarity within the ruling party.
Addressing the press after the meeting, Uzodimma described the visit as a way to check on Buhari’s well-being, referring to him as “the father of the APC.”
He also emphasized that the visit reflected the unity and strength of the party despite recent defections by some of Buhari’s loyalists to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
“We came to pay former President Muhammadu Buhari a courtesy visit. He is our father in politics. We are happy to meet him in good health,” Uzodimma said. “He expressed surprise about our visit but is well pleased with our party.”
The visit comes amid a shift in political loyalty, notably with former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai’s departure from the APC to the SDP.
Despite these defections, the APC governors expressed confidence in the party’s continued dominance, with Uzodimma emphasizing that the APC remains the largest political party in Africa.
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, praised Buhari’s ongoing support for both the APC and President Bola Tinubu, reinforcing the former president’s importance in the party’s future.
The meeting also addressed various political issues concerning the party and the nation, reaffirming the APC’s commitment to staying strong as the ruling party.
