Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the deployment of armed security personnel to the Lagos State House of Assembly, calling it an assault on Nigeria’s democracy. In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, Abubakar expressed concern over the reported mandate to enforce a leadership change in the assembly.
“This act is an attack on the sanctity of democracy and a landmark of indignity to the Nigerian electorate, especially the people of Lagos,” Abubakar said, emphasizing the severity of the situation.
He described the involvement of security agencies in the leadership dispute within the assembly as “an anathema,” urging for a swift and thorough investigation. He further stressed that such actions risk jeopardizing the country’s hard-earned democracy.
The former vice-president also urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritize addressing the country’s challenges.
