Benin Republic and Togo owe Nigeria a combined $8.84 million for electricity consumption in the fourth quarter of 2024, according to a report from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The report reveals that the six international bilateral customers, including those in Benin and Togo, only paid $5.21 million of the $14.05 million owed, reflecting a remittance performance of just 37.08%.

Among the debts, Benin’s Paras-SBEE owes $2.65 million, while Togo’s Odukpani-CEET owes $2.37 million.

Despite the shortfall, Mainstream-NIGELEC in Niger fully paid its $2.6 million invoice. The report also noted that domestic customers made a 63.36% payment on their invoices for the last quarter of 2024.

NERC highlighted that non-payment trends continue with major clients, including Ajaokuta Steel, failing to settle their N1.27 billion invoices.
