Benue State Governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia on Tuesday officially launched the commencement of the long-awaited Geo-Technical Survey at Wurukum Roundabout, marking the first step toward the construction of the Wurukum Flyover.
The project is part of the larger Makurdi-Otukpo-Otukpa-Enugu dualisation road project, a development that Alia had requested to be included in order to alleviate traffic congestion in the state capital.
The combined team from the Federal Ministry of Works and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) began the initial groundwork at the site. The flyover, once completed, is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion, enhance the flow of commerce, and spur overall development in Makurdi.
Governor Alia expressed his gratitude to those who helped bring the project to fruition, stating, “This flyover will not only ease traffic congestion but will also greatly enhance the flow of commerce, movement, and development in Makurdi.”
He also appealed to the residents of Benue State for cooperation, urging them to be patient and follow traffic adjustments and diversions that will be implemented during the construction.
“I appeal to all Benue residents to cooperate with the traffic adjustments and diversions that will be put in place as we begin this historic journey,” Alia added.
A heartfelt thank you was extended to President Bola Tinubu and the Honorable Minister of Works, Sen. Engr. Nweze David Umahi, for their unwavering support.
“This is a dream come true for a #GreaterBenue, and we couldn’t have achieved it without their commitment and leadership,” Governor Alia concluded.
