Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom Promises ₦50m To Victims Of Benue Fire

Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has promised to release ₦50m to traders whose goods were burnt in the Makurdi Modern Market fire.

Goods worth millions of naira were burnt in a fire that destroyed no fewer than 200 shops at the market on Tuesday.

Our correspondent learned that the fire started shortly after the traders had left for their homes.

Ortom, who Wednesday, lamented the destruction caused by the fire, promised to release ₦50m to the affected traders.

Ortom said the state government would constitute an inquiry commission to investigate the cause of the fire.

He said the commission would also look into the issues surrounding the suspension of the market union.

Ter Makurdi, Sule Abenga, who sympathised with the affected traders, urged them not to despair but trust in God.

The traditional ruler, who said the fire incident had affected the economy of the state, called on the Federal Government to assist the state in ameliorating the plight of the people.
