Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved the revised retirement age for teachers from 60 to 65 years and length of service from 35 to 40 years, whichever comes earlier.

The Information officer, Office of the Yobe State Head of Civil Service, Alhassan Sule-Mamudo, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement, however, indicated that the revised retirement age or years of service is not automatic, saying that officers would be required to demonstrate fitness after medical examination.

He added that those found to be unfit would be advised to retire accordingly.

“This gesture is limited to Education Officers/Teaching Staff only, and it is with immediate effect, as contained in a letter signed by the Head of Service, Muhammad B. Nura”, the statement added.

It was gathered that Yobe State is among states in the federation where the reversed retirement age is being implemented.
