A tragic incident occurred at Government Girls Senior Secondary School in Potiskum, Yobe, when a classroom wall collapsed, resulting in the death of a female student and injuries to four others.
Dr. Bukar Bukar, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, confirmed the incident to journalists on Thursday, revealing that 50 Senior Secondary 2 students were present in the block at the time of the collapse.
“A section of the block of classrooms came down the corridors, and unfortunately, five of our students were affected,” Bukar said. “One of them gave up along the line, and four of them are in stable condition according to the medical doctor.”
Authorities have pledged to investigate the cause of the collapse. “The Ministry of Housing has set up a committee to investigate the cause of the collapse to avert recurrence,” Bukar added.
