The Abia State Committee on auditing of Arms and Personnel of Abia State Vigilante Service, AVS and Abia State Homeland Security Security Watch, AHLSW has submitted its report to Governor Alex Otti, with a revelation of multi-million naira fraud in the two security organizations.
The Committee, which was set up by Governor Otti to audit Arms and Personnel of the AVS and AHLSW, made the revelations on Wednesday while submitting their findings.
The Chairman of the 7-man Committee, Assistant Commander Ogbuehi Emmanuel, Rtd while presenting the report, said 194 million naira was spent annually on paying and servicing ghost workers in the two establishments.
He noted that many ghost workers were discovered in both security agencies.
Commander Emmanuel informed the Governor that his committee did a thorough job in the assignments given to them and urged him to review and implement the recommendations of the committee.
He further thanked the Governor for giving the members of the committee the opportunity to serve the state.
Receiving the report, governor Otti who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Calab Ajagba, said the State government would carry out a thorough review of the report
He emphasized that security of lives and property and eradication of corruption in the State were important to the governor.
The Chief of Staff noted that no society can thrive in a situation of insecurity.
Special Adviser on Security to the Abia State Governor, Commodore Macdonald Uba Rtd among other security officers were present during the handover ceremony.
