The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State has unanimously endorsed Governor Bassey Edet Otu and his deputy, Peter Odey, as the party’s sole candidates for the 2027 gubernatorial election.
This announcement was made on Monday during a press briefing held at the party’s secretariat in Calabar.
Alphonsus Eba, the State Chairman of APC, expressed confidence in the duo’s leadership, stating, “Nobody changes a winning team,” and highlighted their loyalty and governance achievements. Eba emphasized that while the governorship and deputy governorship positions are sealed for Otu and Odey, other positions within the party remain open for contest.
Otu, who has served nearly two years in office, reflected on the decision, stating, “It’s almost one year and ten months in office. I have come to show that we made the best choice.” He further praised his deputy, Peter Odey, noting, “We have seen so much loyalty, intellect, and support for the Governor.”
The endorsement comes with a call for party members and support groups to engage in grassroots mobilization. Eba added, “All party members, support groups, are therefore commissioned to freely go into the field, and to continue the evangelical mission that will now take them to the field.”
Both Otu and Odey’s alignment with national leadership was also emphasized, with Eba praising their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State to prevent conflict escalation.
