The Cross River State House of Assembly has approved Governor Bassey Edet Otu’s request for a three-week annual leave. The approval was granted during Tuesday’s plenary session, with Speaker Elvert Ayambem reading the governor’s formal request.
Governor Otu will be on leave from March 11 to April 1, with Deputy Governor Peter Odey stepping in as the acting governor during this period.
The lawmakers expressed confidence that upon his return, Governor Otu would resume his duties with renewed vigor. “We are confident that when he returns, he will continue to steer the affairs of the state with energy and focus,” said one lawmaker.
The Assembly also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the governor’s policies and programs.
