In a surprising move, the Edo House of Assembly announced the immediate dismissal of all political appointees attached to its members. The decision was made during plenary by Speaker Blessing Agbebaku.

The Speaker confirmed that the decision was a collective one, involving all 24 members of the Assembly. Agbebaku stated, “I think it is two years now, and the House has graciously agreed that those sets of appointees, SAs and SSAs, should be relieved of their appointments today, February 19.”

The dismissed appointees include Special Advisers (SAs) and Senior Special Advisers (SSAs), who were originally appointed when the Eight Assembly began in June 2023. Despite the sack, the Speaker assured them, saying, “They will receive this month’s (February) salary.”

The Assembly members will reconvene to discuss the next steps in filling the vacancies left by the appointees.
